My 11 year old daughter has writtn a book which would be the best publishers to try?

I taught primary children (5 - 11) for many years, and I've seen some good stories from kids, but I never saw writing from one of this age worthy of publication. I know that sometimes we come across a prodigy, but that is rare. I once saw on TV a 12 year old boy who had a book published, after hearing the boy and parents in an interview, it seemed to me there had been an awful lot of parental sub-editing, who knows?

There could be all sorts of problems in submitting your daughter's book to a publisher, we hear tales of even excellent authors being rejected, that is fine for adults, we have learned to take the knocks. With a child, rejection at such a young age may nip in the bud a future talent. It's a hard dilemma.

MickS thank you for that it's worth a discussion with her. Who knows then, The story is hers she is coming accross parts of her story that are proving a triffle difficult to actually put into words. I read every day and she does too always has, Her reading ability measured in 1st term of yr 6 was deemed to be age 16 (thats as far as school can measure).. Her literacy abilities and vocabulary are greater than most of my Uni Educated Fully Life experienced 40+ friends with the added bonus of an amazing imagination.

I have to admit I am intrigued by the story and felt tears welling at a tragic part in the story as she tells it and I love the way she is planning it's end (she's approx 2/3's of the way through the draft). I plan to help her when it's finished obviously but in the meantime I won't give her much as I don't want to spoil her flow. Knowing my Girl, I think I will discuss the possible knock back with her and see what she would like to do which I think will be go for it, she is auditioning for drama parts anyway and is mature enough to say "I will probably get 200 no's before a yes so I will keep trying".

I have written to Michael Morpurgo on her behalf today for insight and to 5 Publishers just for general advice. She isn't hanging her life on this one book, so I think the whole experience is a positive one, even if it doesn't get published, it's certainly going to be an achievement. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
