Vet! Bring him to the vet and make sure there is nothing wrong with his kidneys or bladder. I had a Siamese cat when I was a child who had something wrong with his kidneys--something to do with the ash content of his food--and it made him pee in weird places.

Put plastic all around the litter box for now. I have my litter boxes (2) in a little alcove between 2 book shelves, and a couple of cut-up trash bags cover the sides of the shelves and the walls to about a foot up, and about a foot around the box, because one of my cats will poop beside the box if it's not clean to his standards (ie, there is a poop already in the box! ).

The most important thing is to get him to the vet to get checked. It doesn't take long for kidney failure to kill. I'm not saying that's what it is (I'm no vet) but better to be safe than lose your kitty to illness.

The vet may also be able to give you more ideas on why this behavior has started if the cat is healthy. If you have changed something in the household (schedule, person moving in/out, pet coming in or leaving, new furniture, anything really) the cat might be upset and telling you in the only way that gets your attention--by peeing. Make sure you use enzyme cleaners on the pee puddles to remove the smell.

You can use a black light to find old dried up pee too. Well first you want to deduce the cause You have my complete sympathy. About 6 months ago, my tonkinese cat started marking all over our bed! She even peed right ON my husband one night while he was sleeping.

Yuck! Well, she was getting upset over a new baby in the house, combined with not having enough privacy at the one litter box in our house (for 3 cats). So we started up another litter box and put it in another location.

Plus we used a secret weapon I’ll describe below. Ever since then she hasn’t had ONE accident! Now, the first thing you need to do is figure out WHY your baby’s marking: First thing, take your baby to the vet.

She could have a urinary tract infection - cats mark when they get one. And the only way to clear it up is through an exam and antibiotics. Once you (hopefully) rule out an infection or other health problem, here’s what you need to ask yourself: Are there any other cats in the house?

If so how many litter boxes are set up? Was there a recent upheaval in your household? Somone moving?

New carpeting or furniture? Have you changed the cat’s routine at all? New food?

New bed? New brand of cat litter? New litter box location?

Any of these factors can cause a finicky cat to start marking outside of the box. If you have more than one cat, try setting up a second litter box in another area of the house. If it’s any of the other factors above, then your kitty is too stressed out, and I recommend getting a phermone diffuser called Feliway!

My vet recommended these to me (she uses them in her house). You plug these diffusers into the wall (like an air freshener), but humans can’t smell them AT ALL! They send out happy phermones to your cat(s) and make them all in good moods all the time - helping your stressed kitty mellow out.

One diffuser covers about 1,000 sq ft on one floor of your house. So in my 1,400 sq ft house we put two on the main floor, and we’ll be adding one to the basement. THEY WORK!

She’s a much more mellow happy kitty! The only downside is you have to order refills every now and then and they’re not exactly cheap. But what they’ll save you in pulled-out hair and carpet cleaner is worth it!

REMEMBER THOUGH: Since your cat is older, you MUST rule out health problems first (otherwise sprays and diffusers won't work at all). Then talk to your vet and see if they recommend Feliway for your cat! .

At 14 years old he is getting up there in age. I strongly urge you, if you haven't already done so, to take your kitty to the vet and have him checked for a urinary infection. Older male cats are notorious for getting this and I know everyone hates to pay money to a vet, but this guy of yours has been around for a while and has provided you with some measure of happiness.

Please take him to the vet, you owe it to him. Kitty doesn't pee outside of litterbox unless something is bothering him. Good luck, hope he is okay..

When my female turned 14 she decided to make my new chair......and the sofa bed............and the love seat her cat box. It was horrible....we have 6 cats total...and she is the eldest. I wanted to "ring her neck" but shes my first born and I love her.

We found out not only was her thyroid out of whack but she had behavioral problems...alot of old cats get them. Shes on PROZAC now and shes in great shape. After 10 months, she looks good, she acts like shes 5 years old, she rebuilding a relationship with the other cats again and best of all she uses the catbox.

We did have 5 catboxes. She has her own personal one now. It took alot of love & patience to get through this and we did separate her from the other cats....for the last month we have been letting her spend at least 6 hours aday with the others and play.

I would have never thought about an anti depressant but I did alot of research and it works great on most animals. To get that smell out of the rug go to zeroodor. Com that spray saved my life...and my furniture......

Maybe urinary tract infection or crystals blocking his urine. Male cats have this happen more than female cats.

I have 3 cats and all of them use the floor as the litter box how can I prevent them from using the floor I don't want to have to put them in a room with just a litter box .

Why is my cat peeing right outside the litter box?!?!?!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
