My bank reopened a checking account to put through a merchant charge that took over 90 days to clear? Is that legal?

Carla, thanks. It was a $3.39 debit/credit that took over 90 days to clear, and in the meantime, the bank was going to start charging a $5 monthly checking acct fee, so I closed the acct. If you can believe it University of Toledo processed zero transactions that students made in the eateries in their student union from Sep 2010 until Jan 2011.

The intent wasn't for it to bounce. But after waiting over 90 days for a $3.39 debit/charge to clear, and with the bank instituting a $5 monthly fee, I closed the account. I guess we need to go back to a cash society and quit making banks and credit card companies rich with merchant fees, not to mention fees consumers get hit with.

I know what you mean. That is why I use a Credit Union. Not perfect, but they do work with me.

Yes it is, you signed the transaction so you should have closed the account after it posted or left money to cover it. Many banks allow merchants to post the transaction at any time, as long as the initial hold was valid. Thus small businesses or large businesses with book errors may post a transaction weeks or even months after the initial authorization.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
