My blood type is O- and my sons blood type is AB-. I'm trying to figure out what blood type his father has?

I know who his father is, we just want to find out what blood type he is, I was told you can figure it out by what blood type his son and I have. Mailorder 4 months ago .

Many who ask blood type questions seem to want to know if the father is the person they think he is.

This cannot be your biological son. Check this out with a doctor. Maybe you have the blood types mixed up.

The father can get his blood typed at a doctor's office or by donating blood to the Red Cross (they will let him know later). It is a very simple test and I can't imagine a doctor's office would charge much. Or, if he has given blood before, the Red Cross will have it on record.

But, since this child cannot be yours biologically, something is amiss. I think you and the father should see a doctor together. Perhaps the baby was typed wrong, or you or the dad were typed wrong.

I was told you can figure it out by what blood type his son and I have. Usually not, as usually there are many possibilities. But in this case, the father has to be AB, there's no other easy way to get AB if you're O.

This is impossible per the usual blood typing. An O mother cannot have a child with AB blood. This is why blood type cannot be used for paternity testing.

And why you cannot determine what the father is. I would assume the father is A or B. But If the father is A, then the mother should be B.

If the father is B, then the mother should be A. (not O) It's easy to get the father blood-typed. Simple dot of blood can do it.

Although all blood is made of the same basic elements, not all blood is alike. In fact, there are eight different common blood types, which are determined by the presence or absence of certain antigens – substances that can trigger an immune response if they are foreign to the body. Since some antigens can trigger a patient's immune system to attack the transfused blood, safe blood transfusions depend on careful blood typing and cross-matching.

In addition to the A and B antigens, there is a third antigen called the Rh factor, which can be either present (+) or absent ( – ). In general, Rh negative blood is given to Rh-negative patients, and Rh positive blood or Rh negative blood may be given to Rh positive patients. The universal red cell donor has Type O negative blood type.

The universal plasma donor has Type AB positive blood type. O positive is the most common blood type. Not all ethnic groups have the same mix of these blood types.

Hispanic people, for example, have a relatively high number of O’s, while Asian people have a relatively high number of B’s. How Is My Blood Type Determined?
