Well after it runs hot the coolant will be low because overheating will couse it to boil over. You may not be loosing coolant through a leak at all. If your fan isnt working or water pump isnt working or you have a bad thermostat or a cloug any of these will make it overheat.
And anyoverheating will make the cooant boil over. After it cools it will be low if it has ran too hot no matter what the cause. However if you are for sure you are loosing coolant from leaking elsewhere and do not see any leaks on the ground then head gasket is a good guess.
However 9 times out of ten thare will be traces of oil in the coolant when a headgasket is leaking. You can also get a test kit to test for exsaust gasses in coolant. Napa sells this kit.
If gasses are present the coolant turns blue. This would indicate head gasket problems. You need to have it pressure tested to be sure it isnt leaking elsewhere and not just boilover from a separate issue all together.
It can also be somthing as simple as a radiator cap. They go bad and leak. When they do thare is no pressure on the cooling system.
This means the boiling ppint of the coolant is much lower with no pressure. It boils comes out the vent as steam and evaperates and then you overheat. Could be many things.
A good pressure test is the best way to diagnose this. Caps can be pressure testes also.
Head gasket a failing water pump. A leaking heater core, I could go on but you have the truck, look around and see what you find.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
