My chihuahua will not drink water unless her bowl is held for her. She used to drink out of it when it was on the floor. She is also afraid of everything and jumps if startled.
We moved in february, 7 months ago, and the no drinking and startle response have cropped up since the move. She is about 11 and she also has to sneak up on her food dish to eat. I think she is psychotic or going blind but I really have no one to ask.

Find a new vet and see if there is any medical problems. You will need to find one eventually. The dog is getting on in years, so this move may be traumatic for her.
You can also talk to her previous vet, maybe he has suggestions for you. Try a raised food dish. That may help.
I don't think she is going psychotic or blind, but that is more the reason to get her to a vet. Good luck.
1 To find out if the dog is having trouble bending the back/neck to drink, elevate the dish on a small box a few inches high. This is common in larger dogs.

2 Actually, you do have someone to ask: the vet. Even if you haven't established a relationship with a vet in the area where you've moved, you could call your old vet. And when you do that, see if they know of a vet in the area that they recommend.
Dgjones gives a good answer about the water dish. As for the startle response or fear, is it possible that the move traumatized her in some way? .

3 You need to call a good dog trainer after the vet checks her out, but not one from petsmart or one of those places. Find one that will come and do a home visit and can observe the dogs and your behavior. Whatever you do, do not try to comfort the dog when it is acting scared.
Comforting a scared dog just confirms to the dog that there is something to be afraid of! Just ignore the dog and calmly say "you're fine". It can take a dog months to get settled in a new home after moving, but you really need a dog trainer because without proper leadership this could become disasterous.
I work with dogs and see things like this every day, but it can be fixed. Good luck! .

4 While I agree with almost everything AngryCanadian says, I DO NOT agree that it is wrong to comfort your dog when it's afraid. They require reassurance just like humans do when under stress. Please do not ignore your dog when it is afraid.
Don't overfawn on her, but do reassure her that everything is OK. Remember that dogs are pack animals and huddle together with other members of their pack (in this case, you) when they feel danger is near or they are fearful of something. It's a perfectly normal reaction.
The move to a new home may have unsettled her but definitely have a vet check her out. Get a recommendation from your previous vet for a new vet in your new neighborhood. You might also try putting her water bowl on a little stepstool so that it's elevated from the floor.
She may have some neck/back trouble that you are (as yet) unaware of. She may also just simply want you to hold her bowl for her as a way of keeping you closer to her while she's drinking. It's a way to allay a sense of vulnerability on her part (she feels vulnerable because she's not as alert while she's busy drinking).
Good luck and let us know how she progresses.

" "How can I get my dog to drink more water?" "Can't drink much water anymore, even when thursty. Why is that? " "can you drink distilled water" "How much water is recommended to drink per day?" "How much water should we drink?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
