A four year old really doesn't have a realistic concept of things like weapons, danger, death, etc. He might walk right past it, or he might fixate right on it and want to touch it. The gun owner in me says "hey, what a great opportunity to safely and responsibly talk to a young person about how guns aren't toys and that, even though this gun doesn't work, it needs to be treated respectfully." The social worker in me says "wow, is the mom of that boy ever going to tear you a new one!

" Not all families are comfortable with firearms, working or not, and you just don't know what this child's home life is like. Any child coming over to your house is cause for a chat with their parent. Maybe when you set up the play date, you can mention that this antique is in your home and ask how mom/dad feels about that.

If they ask that you please put it away, try not take it personally (or politically) and move it for the sake of your daughter being able to make a new friend. I also wonder how you are displaying it? It sounds like something that is valuable enough that you might be upset if it got knocked over or damaged.

Four year olds are experts at breaking things, and it could be extremely awkward for you to ask his mom or dad to pay for the damage he did to your gun.

It's not really a matter of who's right. It's more a matter of taste. As long as you have a continuing theme going, I don't see any harm in it.As far as the boyfriend and the family... I don't think there's anything to worry about with displaying an antique firearm.

The person who does the most work at decorating the home should have the last word regarding the gun, but that's just my opinion. (my my, your little princess is growing up fast!).

I know some people do that. Also, how old is your daughter and this boy? I don't really see anything wrong with the old gun being displayed there since it is there for decorative purposes, being it's an antique.

It's the way of the world. She's going to have many boyfriends to come...time to get used to the idea.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
