My dog ate chicken bones. What should I do? Asked by Dinny82 42 months ago Similar questions: dog ate chicken bones Food & Drink > Food.
Nothing if the dog has already eaten them. The chicken bone itself is perfectly edible to your dog. The reason you shouldn't feed your dog chicken bones is more to do with the way they splinter when the dog bites into them.
Chicken bone splinters are extremely sharp and long, these can cause scratches and cuts in the dogs throat causing irritation. In extreme cases chicken bone splinters can get stuck in your dogs throat. However, if the dog has eaten them without any problems, it should be fine.
If you don't want to waste this very good food source for your dog, save the bones, then cook in a pressure cooker for about 10 to 15 mins. This causes the bones to soften and they crumble when bitten rather than splinter. (you can make a very tasty chicken bone stew using this method) The same rules apply to feeding chicken bones to cats..
If they are already swallowed, he should be fine... If he didn't choke immediately when eating...most likely he will be ok. The biggest danger with chicken bones is they splinter when chewed and can get lodged in the throat. If he already swallowed them, most likely he will be ok, they will get digested ok..
If he's still alive, you're in good shape ... Acording to my vet, the risk with chicken (or other bird) bones is that they are hollow and will splinter. This can cause fragments to lodge in the dog's throat and can cause them to choke. It can also cause scratches in the liner of the esophogus, which can become badly irritated from stomach acids in some cases, but normally you would see the signs of this with bloody discharge if it's bad.
The fact that your animal is not showing any of these signs is good, (unless, of course he is ... I'm going by an assumption here). Within a day or two if he seems fine, I probably wouldn't worry about it. I've been through a similar worry with my dog, (more than once), but all is well that ends well and she's fine.

The danger does not comes only in the eating. My aunt's dog died last month because of this issue with chicken bones. Dolly was her first dog and she didn't know how bad is chicken bone for a pooch.(stupidly)Dolly was vomiting and had diarrhea and visited lots of vets trying to save her.
At the end they discovered that she had a perforated esophagus, but it was too late to procedure a surgical. The bones splinter when they are chewed and dogs can choke. If he/she's already swallowed them, still have the danger to perforate some organs.
I don't want to panic anyone, but we must be really careful with this matter. Good luck and all the best Juk 4 months ago.
Hope to god their not small - because you dog can choke on them You need to discipline you dog not to eat human food most of it's bad for him put it out of the way - don't feed you pets while eating they might start begging. Make your dog go outside, in the corner of a room(not to come near while your eating), anywhere so he/she knows its you turn for being alone & eating & they can eat later. Dogs & cats will rule you if you let them Sources: my 2 cents .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
