My dog has always had a companion and now he doesn't w/ behavior problems, should I get another dog or cat/kitten?

Since my dog was 6 weeks old he has either had a person or animal home with him during the day. Whenever we have moved, he would bark in the beginning but never destroyed anything and never pooped in the house. Now that my fiance and I have moved into our own apartment, he is eating our blinds, pooping on our couches and barking all day to the point where the neighbors called the apartment complex on us.

I don't know what to do! We got a cat who is 6 months old but it's not helping. Maybe a dog?

He is a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix. Chunkyswifey143 10 months ago .

I responded before you added the details, oops. Kitty is probably sleeping all day and not keeping your dog company. I would go ahead and adopt another pooch.

Thanks! I've been researching other dogs, and I'm thinking a Boston Terrier would be good. Small, apparently don't bark much and easy to train... Chunkyswifey143 10 months ago .

Yes. He's missing his old friends, and must be acting out because he hates being alone.

Well, that a pretty tough little breed! They like to be the boss, and seem to think they are great danes. Yes, I would get him a dog - a small one.

He could be acting out because of the new "family" dynamic, not the new apartment...? .

Yeah, we bought him together after we got our first apartment. He loves his father more than me sometimes! Yesterday, he tore up all the carpet so we decided babysitting was the only option until we can figure this out.

He has an appt with the vet today to see if medication is needed. He's really acting out, and training all day every day is just not an option for us. Plus, we don't have the money to send him to a "boot camp".

They want to charge $1800 for 3 weeks of in house training... but explain to me how that helps his behavior at home? I don't know what to do - I'm tearing my hair out! Chunkyswifey143 10 months ago .

$1800 is WAY too expensive and you are smart having a sitter come over in the mean time. This might sound strange, but who lived in your apartment before you? He could be trying to cover old scents with his own.

After I bought my house last year, my dog wouldn't stop peeing or pooping everywhere too. Finally, after pulling up carpets, we found out there were old stains from old dog & cat pee that were never taken care of. My dog smelled it and couldn't help himself.

I could just imagine him saying "This is my house now. "I WAS uneasy about Boot Camps and Group Lessons, too. Until I found my trainer.

You'd be very surprised at how the smallest training can change a personality of a dog, whether they are training at home or not. In a lot of cases, being away from home is better for training because of the extra distractions. Group classes are offered at Pet stores like PetSmart and PetCo (again, I'm not sure where you live) and they are approx $100 for 5 classes of Group Training. As for medications, I have never found one that works unless you get it right from the vet.

In that case, they'll most likely give you steroids to calm him for the entire day. In my personal opinion, I don't think that solves the problem - I think it only sedates him long enough so he doesn't know you're gone.

I'm not sure where you live, but I am in Buffalo, NY. I know of a Trainer here that is very inexpensive and they work with you for the life of your dog, even after your sessions are complete. (private classes + an e-collar + obedience classes for his entire life = $700) I swear by them because I've had amazing results with my dog.

He has stopped destroying my house, stopped attacking the cats, no more garbage can, no barking or whining... It's a complete 360. My trainer is always willing to give advice, over the phone or in person, even if you aren't a client. Please give him a call or check out their website:connectwithyourk9.com/index.htmlor on Facebook:facebook.com/pages/K9-Connection/1185299... and I promise you he is the best Trainer I have ever come across (he's also the founder).

I was to the point where I didn't even want to come home to my dog's mess. He has changed my dog's life for the better, and mine. Now we're all happy.Html.

Wow, thanks! That's super cheap... I'm in Southern California but I will definitely give him a call and get some answers. Any advice would really help.

I'll check out the website right now. Chunkyswifey143 10 months ago .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
