My friend has a new Dell Dimension C521 computer and the music reproduction on it is terrible and scratchy, why?

Or possibly bad speakers (Boston Speakers are what she has). Asked by frankoid 48 months ago Similar questions: friend Dell Dimension C521 computer music reproduction terrible scratchy Computers > Hardware > Desktops & Laptops.

Could be many things, but first check speaker. First swap out the computer speakers for another set if you have one handy-do a simple swap and see if the scratchiness follows the speakers. Check the headphones port as well-if it sounds better over headphones, you're probably looking at a simple speaker issue.

Check the wires to the speakers and the power cord too-there might be some small rip in the insulation jacket on the wires. If so, try electrical tape. It could be something else, but unlikely.

If you know it isn't the speakers, you might try finding a better device driver, but at that point I'd call customer service and let them figure it out. It should still be under warranty.

Speaker upgrade or sound card The most likely culprit is the speakers - the ones Dell ships with their desktop computers are throw-aways. I'd start by getting a pair of decent Logitech speakers, which I will recommend in the Widget section below. It may help to upgrade the sound card from what's supplied as well.

That series has an integrated sound chipset. All I'm seeing in their specs is "Integrated 7.1Ch Audio" (For the 531s - could not find the model you listed), although Dell has been using Soundmax chips lately. On that note - I don't know if she has one of the slim jobs or a full-sized chassis, so I would not know what to recommend in the way of a sound card.An external, USB sound system like the Creative Labs Audigy would be a good choice if she has the slim chassis, which will not accommodate a full-height PCI sound card.

Speakers might be part but onboard sound is more likely the reason. Dells don't generally ship with the greatest stock chipset on the motherboard, I've got a Dimension 5something or other from a year and a half ago and it didn't produce great sound for me either so I picked up an Audigy SE for like $25 and haven't had a problem. I do a bit of recording and have surround speakers and don't like the motherboard doing anything that I can't already get a dedicated card for in the first place so I was going to buy one anyway.

You can probably pick up any soundcard second hand somewhere for cheap. Creative is probably to best known name for sound hardware but really as long as it's a dedicated chip for it you should be fine.

1 Frankoid, I was a little too hasty; the C521 has a Sigma Tel audio chipset, not a Soundmax, but it doesn't change my answer any.

2 Depending on what the source of the sound is (game, media player, whatever) it could go either way. When mine was brand new (with sigma tel audio) I tried it with a brand new pair of cyber acoustic 2.1 speakers and it didn't sound any different until I put a new card in. Of course I've got logitechs now and it's awesome but I wouldnt be able to do 5.1 without a new card anyway.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
