Legally the company only needs to pay for the application and lawyer fees. They may pay for your travel - but they don't have to. Also, you do not need to travel to get the visa stamped in, you can instead seek an extensition/change using form I-539.
If you travel out of US however, you will need to go to the consulate and then get the actual visa.
