My iPod docking station doesn't work by running it on batteries?

Most USB docking stations work poorly. They are highly dependent on a quad core i7 cpu. If that is what you have, that is your problem.

I worked at Lenovo and IBM for 30 years and we investigated a universal docking station, which I believe was eventually produced and sold, but I saw its inherent flaw when I analyzed what was available. If your gaming laptop is not a quad core i7, that is its first problem. The rest is brand to brand variation of the components used to produce it.

Add: And, your gaming is a big draw on available processing power.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
