My wife and I are thinking about exchanging our timeshare week for New Orleans this year. Is this city up and running? Is there enough to do and see to keep us busy for a week?

From what I've heard, the city's recovery has been sporadic, but it should be in good enough shape It's not going to be as nice as pre-Katrina, but it's up and running sufficiently to make for a worthwhile tourist destination from everything I've heard. Here are some details:Several major tourist events as well as other forms of revenue for the city of New Orleans have returned. The National Association of Realtors held its annual convention in New Orleans as planned before Hurricane Katrina.

With over 25,000 attendees, this was the largest convention in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. The Bayou Classic, the traditional football game between Southern University vs Grambling State University returned in November 2006 after being displaced to Houston, Texas for its November 2005 date. The Essence Music Festival has made a commitment to return to the Crescent City for its July 2007 date after being displaced to Houston for its July 2006 date, along with other major events such as Mardi Gras, the Jazz and Heritage Festival, etc (which were never displaced).

The National Football League has made a commitment to the city of New Orleans with the return of the New Orleans Saints, following speculation of a move to San Antonio, Texas or Los Angeles, California after Hurricane Katrina, and also a possible 2012 or 2013 Super Bowl. The National Basketball Association has made a commitment to the Big Easy with the return of New Orleans Hornets, part time in the 2006-2007 season (one game per month) and full time for the 2007-2008 season and even granting New Orleans the 2008 NBA All Star Game, which usually generated millions of dollars in revenue for host cities. National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA returned some of its March Madness action to New Orleans beginning March 16.In mid-March 2007 news spread public about private investors trying to bring a Major League Soccer team in New Orleans but talk is sure to nascent about whether New Orleans can support another professional team.

Several national travel guides have once again listed New Orleans as one of the top five places to visit in the country. Officials of several New Orleans phone book companies have stated as of February 2007 they have to issue another phone book just seven months after releasing their previous one due to a high rate of returning residents to the city as well as returning businesses to the city of New Orleans, symbolizing an increase of the residents returning to the region. Be careful I would check the crime reports first. For what I hear, it is still very dangerous. I wanted to go last year for Mardi Gras so I stopped by a travel agent to get some opinions.

They all said its too soon still which breaks my heart. However, you may want to consider just getting a regular hotel/air. When I was looking, everything was rather inexpensive.

Try kayak.com for air & hotwire.com for hotel. I hope I am wrong & that you have a wonderful & safe trip! Best of luck!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
