Natural beauty products: in what areas they are superior to mainstream, and in what areas they fall short?

By natural, I mean the brands sold in healthy food stores, such as Kiss My Face, Jason, Weleda, etc. I do realize that the word "Natural" is not regulated and anyone can claim to have a "Natural" product. Mentioning the specific brands would help. Asked by :-) 57 months ago Similar questions: Natural beauty products areas superior mainstream fall short Lifestyle > Beauty.

My experience with natural beauty products I've found that most natural beauty products are just as effective as regular ones. The advantage they have is that they don't use artificial chemicals. For example, an acne wash uses tea tree oil instead of benzyl peroxide.

Another example is a natural deodorand that uses ingredients other than aluminium. Beacause they don't use chemicals, they are usually better for people with allergies. Also, they are good for people concerned about the can risks posed by certain chemicals, such as metals in deodorants.

The one disadvantage I've found with natural beauty products have been that the deordorants are ineffective for me. The regular deodorant with chemicals provides more coverage. Sources: opinion .

Of course if you want really all natural products you can always make them yourself which is something I do for some of the products I use. It's been my experience in the 17 years I've worked in health food stores, that the consumer's comments carry more weight than they realize. Granted, it may sometimes seem that our remarks fall on deaf ears, and yes, you're right, some companies don't give a damn what the consumer thinks.

They go by the wayside eventually with that kind of thinking. Don't support companies that use bad stuff in their products! Most importantly, LET THEM KNOW WHY!

I've seen some impressive changes in the years I've done this. SLS = Sodium Laurel Sulfate is a common lathering agent found in shampoo and toothpaste, be it commercial or natural. Jason, one of our manufacturers, has finally come up with a line in clean toothpaste that offers several flavors.

I'll warn you that the mints pack a punch. It's you're sensitive to that, try the vitamin C and citrus toothpaste. It's mellow and very nice.

There are other products as well. Jason shampoo doesn't have SLS either, but some folks don't like parabens to preserve their products. I will make a bold statement and say that I trust any product in a health food store over what is commonly sold in drugs stores, CostCo, or the supermarket.

I stand by that remark. However, knowing what I know now, it really IS important to READ LABELS. Be a responsible consumer.

AND for God/Goddess sake, BE NICE TO YOURSELF. Did anyone ever say to you: After all your body does for you - What do YOU do for YOUR body on a daily basis? For mascara, my customers like NO MISS or Ecco Bella.

I mention them often because they are very clean products and cover most all needs. Believe it or not, Burt's Bees has a buttermilk baby soap bar that is one of our best sellers for men to use in their shaving mug. It makes the creamiest, most wonderful lather for shaving that I've ever used.It leaves the skin feel clean, soft and smelling sexy.

Why would anyone want to use nasty commercial chemical products on their skin or that of a newborn infant. What a hellof a way to start out in this life. We all need to get a clue as to what we are putting IN and ON our bodies.
