On clay, sandy or loam soils, what can be expected regarding the lateral and vertical movement of water? Will the amount of water required be reduced?

On clay soils please read the heading "Aeration Factor Test" on the R&D report. The answer is that it does change the crumb structure of the soils and does decrease the amount of water needed. Water movement is both vertical and lateral.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
