No one person, even John McCain, can solve all of our problems. America is a big mess. Gas prices, inflation, recession, race relations, the Iraq war, political garbage, home prices, unemployment, medical care, Social Security... it's all a disaster.
We can't erase it all and start over, so we have to try to clean up the mess while continuing to do what we need to do. No individual, no one administration, is going to fix any of it. I have great faith in John McCain and he's got my vote.
That being said, there is no way, even in two terms, that he will fix all that is "wrong" in our country. I anticipate some solutions to some problems to come along early in his presidency, and some to come later, and some never to come at all. In addition to whatever good he does, there will be some bad and some ineptitude and some compromise and some big disasters; it's the way of American politics.
If you expect any president to "whip America into shape," you're going to be disappointed. If you look to McCain to do things that will improve your life, you are putting the power into the wrong hands and need to look at taking charge of yourself. What a president does is provide guidance and leadership and to set a course that he believes will, in the long run, make America a better, safer, stronger place and make it greater than it is now, and leave it a better place than it was when he took office.
However, there are stumbling blocks. Partisan politics and budgetary concerns are not the least of these. No one can make it all go away and cause things to work like magic.
There will be discord and failure. However, John McCain has the greatest ability of all the candidates to leave America better than he found her. Having served his country at great cost and hardship to himself, he certainly appreciates this country more than most, I think.
I believe it will take him mere months to begin making changes, but I don't anticipate everything being sunshine and roses when he leaves office, either. He'll do his best and do what he believes is right and some things will improve and that's all we can ask. McCain will never solve any of the country's problems if he gets elected; He'll continue to follow the Republican playbook, and continue with Bush's asinine policies, even though they have been shown to be morally bankrupt and go against common sense. After 8 years of Bush, we certainly don't need a Bush clone for another 4. Schelli's Recommendations Mission Accomplished!

Why we’ll just go on in perpetual BUSH BLISS.... Why upset things... Just keep the Bush Autopilot engaged and blunder into IRAN.... As long as we’ve got TWO (count them--TWO) stimulus checks forthcoming, and GAS TAX HOLIDAYS---All’s right with the world.. Ordered my new GIANT YELLOW HUMMER already... All kidding aside. I don't think McCain will do anything more but occupy the White House... He will apply more Bushite "economic stimulus voodoo", and thus my crystal ball tells me the history books will one day record his legacy as the HERBERT HOOVER of the 21st century.. Haha... ... I don't see John McCain getting elected. S comments about being in Iraq for 100 years - take it however you like - will not sit well with the 80% of Americans who wanted the conflict in Iraq over yesterday. Whichever Democrat gets the nomination should win.
Otherwise, this recession may only get worse and gas prices will continue to rise. The problem I am seeing is the ones left in the presidential race - aside from Ron Paul - are typical bought off politicians that aren't serving the American citizen, but serving big business - and some of that big business is The Military Industrial Complex.
