You make a very valid point... the Aussies try to 'forge' arguments in order to support their own biased opinions and summarily discard any argument from an alternate view.... for instance, the best batsman must be judged by the career average number, but the best bowler need not have the best career average. I strongly believe that an excellent individual player is never so excellent because he belongs to any particular nation or region or race. Sustained performance in cricket requires both physical as well as mental talents and these are unique for every individual and no clear pattern can be drawn based on caste, creed, region, race or nationality.
I do agree that stats need to be analyzed intelligently instead of merely on quantitative terms in order to arrive at more meaningful conclusions and when I apply that criterion on available stats till date, I find Sachin and Murali far far ahead of others and I say this taking into account the fact that the game has evolved into a shorter format as well that demands quite a different set of skills and acumen and hence excelling in both formats of the game becomes a very important additional criterion in itself. Similarly, Kallis seems far beyond anyone else in the all-rounder category. The only Aussie who comes up for reckonong as the best ever is Adam Gilchrist in the wicket-keeper-batsman category, but then Sanga and Dhoni are running him too close for comfort and these two are still active players in all formats of the game.
Sachin has played 780 innings in 90 international grounds in the world and scored runs , tons against all great bowlers in his era compared to bradman who just played 80 innings in less than 15 grounds against clue less , low class bowlers and majority against weak england . Whats the avg of home track bulley Ponting outside aus especially india? Just 35 .
Is 35 enough average to be called as greater than Sachin who averages 57 in Aus .? LOL.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
