I'm Italian and I can't think of a better translation than "Tu sei unico" if you're talking about a man, or "Tu sei unica" if it's a woman (unlike English, adjectives are masculine or feminine in Italian). When talking in general the masculine is generally used. "Unico/unica" means exactly "one of a kind", "no one is like you".
There's nothing wrong with that phrase even if you're referring to people in general. Anyone who reads your tattoo will get the message "You who are reading this are one of a kind, there's no one else like you" If you want to be "philosophical" and avoid gender you can say "Tu sei un essere unico" (You are a unique being) -------------- -------------- Yes, you could translate "the one and only" without any distortion or loss of meaning, it would be "il solo e l'unico" . Be careful: "il solo" (the only), NOT "il sole" (the sun).
"il solo e l'unico" has a different word order because it literally means "the only and the one", however in Italian it's more common to say "il solo e l'unico" than "l'unico e il solo", although the latter is not incorrect. The letter "e" between "il solo" and "l'unico" must be without any accent or apostrophe because otherwise the meaning would change completely. A plain "e" means "and", while "è" or "e' " is a verb and means "is".
The phrase would be meaningless ("the one is the only").
As the others have said, you don't. The closest would be, "c'è solo te per me." ("there is only you for me", and make sure you get the accent on "è" right, should you use it - it should point "backwards", just like I typed it). But, why you want a tattoo in a language you don't understand even the basics of, is beyond me.
What's wrong with your own language? "You are the one," expresses exactly what you want to say, and you don't have to worry about some ignorant tattoo artist getting it wrong. Respect your language, and be proud of it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
