Planning a trip to CA Wine Country for late September - any recommendations?

Its a big state. I'm in the wine biz and here's what I tell people. Stay away from Napa, URL1 Sept.

Its become a wine Disneyland and we mean that not in a good way (I love Disneyland). In Northern California, if you're going to San Francisco head either north to Sonoma's wine country or south to Monterey/Cenral Coast. In Sonoma head for the Russian River and Alexander Valley appellations. Great Sonoma tasting room experiences: Seghesio, Ridge, Rocchioli, Gary Farrell (reservations required for the winery tour), Raymond Burr (yes, Perry Mason/Ironsides!

) Vineyards (for the view and the tour (reservations required) of the orchid greenhouses), Preston. Make your base the lovely townof Healdsburg with its quaint bookstore and antique shops (and very pricey upscale boutiques. In the afternoon or for dinner go where the locals go: the Healdsburg Bar & Grill.

You'll see winery workers and owners dining there as well.In Monterey, if you don't have time to drive through Carmel Valley about 15 miles inland to where the best tasting rooms are, hang out in the lovely seaside village Carmel-by-the-Sea where there are several tasting rooms. Don't miss Galante wines there! Also, don't miss the Monterey Aquarium with the sea otters.

If you're driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles, please stop off in Paso Robles wine country, esp. West Paso Robles and skip Santa Barbara county and the whole Sideways thing - that's a mini-Napa with too many tourists crawling around. Great tasting room experiences: Tablas Creek, Adelaide.

And Laetitia (south of town in Arroyo Grande - right along the 101Freeway heading South - winery on the East side of freeway). There are several lovely inns at all price ranges in Paso Robles. The Paso Robles Inn offers sulfur spring baths in certain rooms).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
