Please share your best outdoor campfire cooking recipes. I know for you folks in the north it has probably already turned way too cold to be enjoying the family weekend camp outs. However, around this part of the world fall is prime camping time.
Additionally, hunting season traditionally starts on the first weekend in November around here, an event that is celebrated by many with all the reverence of most any other religious holiday. I always like to impress my camping buddies with fabulous food cooked over the campfire. I need to do my shopping this afternoon for this weekend's outing but am feeling a bit uninspired at the moment.
Please share your favorite campfire recipes. Recipes using venison, wild turkey, dove, or quail are a major plus. Available equipment includes 2 dutch ovens, cast iron griddle, skillet, and the ever present tin-foil.

Our favorite campfire meal (dinner) We use a large dutch oven. 2 Whole chilkens Large onion Carrots Red potatoes Chicken Broth Line oven with foil and place both chickens in. Slice onion and place on top.
Slice carrots and potaotes and add. Pour chicken broth over the top. Salt and pepper to taste.
Cover with foil and place on the fire. I usually do coals on bottom and coals on the bottom and replace them as needed with fresh hot coals. Everything tastes better when cooked over a campfire. Most people don't think of baked brie as campfire food, but it makes a great appetizer. 1 wheel soft-ripened, bloomy-rind cheese, such as Camembert or Brie around 8 ounces.1 tablespoon pear eau de vie or brandy (If you don't drink this is optional) 1 loaf crusty bread, such as pain au levain, baquette or sourdough Unwrap cheese and set in the center of a large piece of aluminum foil, about 12- by-12-inches.
Perforate the cheese a few times with a fork and sprinkle liquor over the top. Close foil by wrapping the sides up around the cheese and sealing it at the top of the wheel. Place in the embers of the campfire, at the edge of the fire where the logs are smoldering and covered with a layer of gray ash (not in direct flame).
Cook, turning wheel occasionally with tongs so all sides spend some time near the embers, until the cheese is soft and melted, about 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from the fire and place on a plate. Open foil packet, and scoop out cheese with hunks of crusty bread.
I went camping a few years ago when we had a warm Thanksgiving here. We cooked our turkey in a bean hole. 10-12 pound wild turkey 1 pound pork sausage 6 cups soft bread crumbs 4 slices bacon 1 medium onion 2 tsp poultry seasoning Sprinkle turkey with game seasoning or poultry spice.
Fry diced onion and crumbled sausage in a 12" to 14" deep Dutch oven. Combine with bread crumbs and mix. Stuff turkey cavity loosely and lace closed.
Put turkey in the Dutch ove and bake for 3-1/2 hours, breast side up with bacon strips covering breast. If you have a larger turkey say 20 pounds double the recipe and bake in hole for 6 hours. Have a great time weekend!

Best Meal to cook over or in a fire Can be done with either fish, chicken breast, or a flank steak. You can portion as you like, but the jist of it is. The Veggies: Quartered Red potatoes Yellow onions chopped into about 1/2' lengths.
Baby carrots The Seasoning: Salt Butter/Margarine Garlic ( chopped or a fresh clove is preferred, but powdered will work) Protien of your Choice. If steak, a little pepper If Fish, a little lemon juice. Roll out a sheet of heavy duty tinfoil, about 2 feet long.
Place your protien in the middle, surround it with the veggies. Put a nice glob of butter or margarine on top, season to taste with salt/garlic. Bring the edges of the tinfoil together in the middle and roll them down, making a seal, fold the ends in and form a nice tight package.
You can cook it on a grate or lay it in the coals of the fire for about 30 mins or until the potatoes are cooked.
And the one I still use is brown sugar in hot tea. Yum.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
