I'm no expert But if you want an opinion of someone thoroughly unqualified...except for having worked hard for a living since the age of 14....I'll give it to you: On-site support: $100 base charge (within a 20 mile radius), with an additional charge of $50/hr. Plus part costs. That's assuming this is a one-man business.

If the tech is working for a larger comany (and they absorb most of what the customer is paying), the tech should probably expect to get paid $15-18/hr. , plus gas mileage. Bring-in support: I'd have a tough time believing pay by the hour would be fair.

Hard to trust how many hours a tech has really put into a machine. What if he hadn't taken that coffee break? What if he hadn't taken that phone call?

Would you have gotten charged for the next hour? I'd charge by the problem most likely (if you're concerned about the consumer's end). If I'm the tech, I'd expect to get paid about $15/hr.

Phone support: A phone tech support person should expect $10-14/hr. Maybe more if the company's generous. I'd say $15-16 would be the upward end..

1 First version: I'd say $50 charge to come then $15 an hour after the first hour if we're talking about virus checking, optimization, software/hardware installs...Second: $25 minimum charge and hourly charge on top of that of say $10/hour from minute one. Third: Minimum $10 charge...
