I am a veteran and find it disrespectful that the current CinC has chosen not to participate at this year's Memorial day's ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Sure he will be attending and speaking at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, but last time I checked he has the means of transportation at his disposal to attend both and still be back to his chicago digs before dinner. Oh wait a minute what am I thinking?
Words from his own mouth at a $17,900 a plate fundraiser dinner today for Barbara Boxer, which Obama rode Air Force One at taxpayers expense to attend. "I don't travel for just anybody," were his words at the first of 3 fundraising events held in California to bolster Boxer's campaign fund, by the way this was his second trip to campaign for Boxer. I guess he doesn't think twice about traveling on our dime across the country for dinner and some opponent bashing.
According to the White House, Obama was in L.A. For the fundraiser only, and had no official business. As president he has no problem traveling the entire distance across the country on unoffical business to support one of his democratic colleages. As president and CinC he chooses not to travel the 600 miles more or less to Honor the very men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that he has a country to be the president of, as well to Honor the servicemen and women who he commands?
Perhaps many don't care, I am not one of them. I am sure there are a great many more, like myself, who see this as an insult to the very office that this man holds. I feel the same towards any Commander in Chief regardless of political party who would choose a day of vacation over intergrity to the office that they hold, especially at a time when we are engaged in 2 wars and a potential 3rd one looming dangerously close on the Korean peninsula.
The morale of our troops could easily be negatively affected by this lack of respect that Obama is displaying by not making the effort to be the best he claims to be. It saddens me, I have family and close friends who lay in rest on the sacred grounds of Arlington. Honestly I hope the president changes his mind.
I'm not holding my breath on that though and I lose respect for the man. I shall forever respect the office. I shall forever honor my brothers and sisters who serve our nation.
Will you Mr. Obama? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgUcFqd4A7o&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK0T4pVHP28&feature=related.
I am so sorry, but this is absolutely appalling. I have many liberal leanings, but for Obama to think so lightly of Memorial Day for him to skip out on paying respects at Arlington National Cemetery, I think his priorities are askew. The above article goes on to further address his post-Memorial Day travel plans as "... the first family will jet back to Washington to prepare for the Wednesday, June 2, tribute to Paul McCartney in the East Room at the Whitehouse."
Paul McCartney's important but our nation's veterans are not? Sorry, but I truly just lost all respect for Obama, just as I lost respect for Reagan and the Bushes all those years ago. Seriously, one may lead a country but I doubt any of those leaders was ever willing to die for that country.
I do not care all that much. The President is observing Memorial Day, and to me it doesn't matter that he is not following that tradition. I know people place a lot of importance on this custom, but I would not think less of any president who decided against appearing at Arlington.
I feel that he cannot be a commander and chief to our military when he has no respect to our falling soldiers. Whether you are for our battles or not we are all americans and we should support our military what would we all do if our whole military said "Well nobody cares about us including our president so the hell with protecting this country" do you think all the bad people would just stay away. No they would take us over and if you think there is noway that would happen with out our military then your as dumb as him.
I have a son serving now and has done 3 tours in Iraq and my dad served in wwII my brother also served right after Vietnam and I thank GOD for people like them everyday you cant go to bed and cover your head with the sheet and think that everythings ok. We are losing our rights everyday and if we don't wake up we will have no country.
I have no problem with this - many Presidents have sent their vice president (Bush and Reagon).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
