He actually averaged 50 and 25 :) I agree Hakeem would own him but Hakeem was unstoppable, he dominated the era which was dominated by Hall of Fame Centers such as David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, Shaq O'Neal and Patrick Ewing. You are very wrong though, Wilt was a very skilled player and as strong as a horse. The quotes of people who played with or against him are still legendary, he literally dislocated a player's shoulder by blocking his dunk attempt and broke another guy's toe when he slammed the ball through the rim and it landed on his foot.
He benched more than Shaq and used to workout with Arnold Schwarzenegger and was an incredibly versatile athlete in college too, his high jump of 6'6 IIRC would have brought him 5th place at the Olympics at that time. He could almost grab the top of the backboard, there are some videos that show him blocking shoots nearly 13 foot up in the air...I will give you a link in the source. There is no doubt he wouldn't average such numbers in today's era but he would be as dominating as anyone today cause his strenght, size and leaping ability which is incredible for a 7 footer is a combination no other basketball player has ever had.
The cameras of the 60s don't do him justice. Just look at his athletic accomplishments. He was a college All-Conference track and field star.
Most NBA guards aren't fast enough to do that. He also was an accomplished high jumper, who posted a vertical that has never been matched by another 7 footer, despite all the improvements of training. He also was reported to be able to bench ober 500 lbs.
Shaq, at his physical peak, could barely top 400. So here is a 7 footer who is as fast as Russell Westbrook, stronger than Shaq, with the highest vertical in the league, who played with enough stamina to average 48 minutes a game, who had the basketball IQ to lead the league in assists, who was also known to be a decent jump shooter. And you think he would struggle in the modern game?
I know the video of him doesn't blow your mind, but a.) Cameras from the 60s don't capture sports well, their framerate is too slow, and b.) A huge majority of Wilt's career wasn't captured on tape.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
