They are for my granddaughter and niece for Christmas. caron-net.com/classes/classmayfiles/clas... haven't had time to read through this whole page and would rather an answer from someone who has a preference in a thread or has tried either.

Cotton is best You should use the same fiber thread as that of the quilt, i.e. Cotton or polyester...there is special hand-quilting thread, and also special machine-quilting thread; just ask at your local quilt store. Don't use rayon in any case, as it is not a strong fiber.

1 I have been sewing for almost 30 years and I would definitely go with embroidery thread. It may or may not be stronger than regular thread but it definitely has a much more vivid appearance. It will give you that handcrafted yet professional look.
One thing to remember is that long stitches come out more easily than shorter ones because they can get snagged on things.

2 There is also quilting thread, Dual Duty Plus Quilting Thread is one brand. I'm not sure if you mean the thread for sewing your pieces together, or for the embellishments on top? .

3 For putting the pieces together, since you are hand quilting, you should use a coated hand quilting thread. It has been glazed and that allows it to slip throught your needle more easily. Use a cotton thread not a rayon one.
Rayon will get caught in the batting. For the embelishments on top are embroidered so you would use embroidery threads for that part. I think a 2 ply would be a good choice.

4 I agree with using embroidery thread for the embellishment on the top. I was talking about to sew my pieces together. Sounds like quilting thread is the way to go.
Thank you zen, Pop & Car! Zen, thanks for the length tip. Pop & Car, I am differently going to look into both those threads.
Thanks for the site Car! I am so excited to start!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
