Radiant (floor) heating: Anyone have any pros or cons to share about this form of heating a home?

3 Looky here, Tundra Darlin it's been way too long. Glad to see you pop in...;) .

5 It's a waste of natural resources, as it heats more of an area than is being used. Even central heating and cooling is a waste if you can't control the zones - when you're asleep, who cares if the kitchen, living room, office, etc are heated or cooled? It would be cheaper, and more energy conscious to use slippers and rugs...

A friend is house shopping here in Alaska and being shown a few homes with this sort of heating system in the floors. Does anyone out there have any experience with this heading system? I'm sure I'd love to put my cold feet on warm floors when its -20 outside, hence I'm looking at the possibility of having it installed in my place, but wonder about any potential problems or complications.

Dang, can't believe how long it's been since I've actually asked a question! Asked by Tundra 29 months ago Similar Questions: Radiant floor heating pros cons share form home Recent Questions About: Radiant floor heating pros cons share form home Home > Home Improvement.

2 I can't think of any cons. Floor heating is pretty standard where I live, only under tiles, though. Don't know if other kinds exist.

We have a thermostat that we set and it is just so nice to have a warm bathroom floor when it is below freezing outside. Most people here have tiles in the entrance, kitchen and bathrooms. Many have their entire basement or first floor tiled with floor warming.

Since heat rises it affects the temperature of the whole house.

4 There are both pros and cons to this method. - Radiant floor heating will be considerably more expensive to install than forced air heat. - If you would have wanted to install air conditioning in the house, then you will still need ducting for the air distribution, so two completely different and separate systems installed in the house.

- Radiant floor heating is generally a pleasant way to heat your house. It is especially great for someone who suffers from cold feet. - Radiant heat of this sort is both efficient and quiet.

- Beware of power failures during the winter! Lose power for a week or so in the winter, and you may find yourself with a radiant, soggy, mess that will cost many thousands of dollars to repair. No heat in the house and cold temperatures will leave you with a frozen house, and lots of additional water filled piping to worry about.

And living up north as I do, in the last 20 years, I've lived through two ice storms that have left me without power for at least a week.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
