I've also heard from friends who are published that their agents and publishers won't look at anything that's been posted onlinea chapter or synopsis may be fine, but putting the entire work online is the equivalent of the old vanity press, so it may come down to why you're writing and whther you are interested in m aking a living or presenting your ideas.
I am along the same lines as the last two comments. If you publish the whole manuscript online, why would a publishing house pay for something that is already out there. Also who wants to buy the cow when they can get the milk for free?
Just making the synopsis available is a good approach, since if you were going to do the traditional route of a query that is what may be required. But if you just want to have a whole work out there for publishers to see samples of your work, then go for it.
From my recent experience with publishers, they want to see the entire book. In the past publishers had trouble with writers that could write a few fantastic chapters and a great synopsis but were incapable of writing an entire book. So, I say yes and let them see what you can do.
And of course always protect your writing any way that you can. Good luck Leni, I wish you much success!
I've heard that the value of your manuscript, in the eyes of a real publishing house, goes down once you publish something online. I heard that in the context of a discussion on whether it was wise to self-publish via Kindle, but I assume it applies in this context as well: if you submit your manuscript, they're going to ask if it's ever been published in any form, and be less interested once they find out it has. But that's just what I heard, I haven't researched it and I don't know first hand.
I think the best way is publish chapter by chapter.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
