I've really had some clunkers lately I started "The Thirteenth Tale" and got about 50 pages into it and stopped cold. I started "Middlesex" twice - just couldn't get into it at all. I am reading "Sin In the Second City" now; it's holding my interest but it's lacks a compelling character - one I could identify with.
It's about Chicago in the early 1900s and its brothels and corruption. It is factual and interesting, but not as good as "The Devil in the White City" about the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. I really enjoyed that one.
I did enjoy "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen recently and would recommend it highly. Whitehead--The Intuitionist Marai--Casanova in Bolanzo Trueblood--Seven Loves .
This is not my first answer ... but the original got lost in Askville. Com’s beta tester. See the Amazon links attached for books recently read that I’ve enjoyed.
I simply do not have what it takes to repeat my own personal reviews. Books I couldn’t stay interested in: any James Patterson I’ve picked up, Misery by Stephen King because it scared me way too badly and Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin. I’am currently reading the new Harry Potter book (Deathly Hallows). Prior to this is it was the Shape Shifter by Tony Hillerman and after that it was Murder In the Museum by Simon Brett, neither of them held my interest. A good book to read (at least I thought so) was James Herriots All Creatures Great and Small(actually the whole series is a good read).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
