Regardless of his politics, Does Obama deserve respect(from RWrs) for not trying torun administration by opinion polls?

Specifically not backing off from an unpopular bill. The last Dem. President tried to do this and I remember it backfiring.

1 I see no likelihood of Obama's detractors ever seeing anything they are willing to respect.

3 I expect any president to listen to public opinion, analyze it then make his own decision. The push back against public opinion isn't the question for the healthcare bill. The real problem that I, and many others see, is the machinations and back room deals that break with Congressional tradition.

There was no input from Republicans considered. The R's were banned from most of the meetings and the secretive negotiations are diametrically opposite of what he said he would do during the campaign. I do not respect that process he used at all.

If the Congress had not bent its own rules beyond recognition the bill would not have passed in its current terrible form. He would have had to bring the Republicans in and negotiate in good faith with the D's and come up with a much better, bi-partisan bill.

The President of the United Staes of America deserves our repect.. you don't have to agree with everything but but the office of the President does deserve respect. As far as running an administration based on the feelings of one group of citizens is what makes this country great. When you campaign and win... you deserve to run the country on what you campaigned on unless circumstances force a shift in the agenda.

Opinion polls mean nothing... no one has ever called and asked my opinion. Matter of fact for all the folks I know none of them have ever been called. Opinion polls are to keep the media in their jobs or slow news days.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
