I don't use it. I've tried it. The Dog Chow could only help.

2 Don't use hamburger helper, sawdust, or dog chow....Try this: sautee onions (as chopped as you like) and mushrooms (if you like them). Add hamburger and brown. Drain grease if you used high fat hamburger.

Add your choice of frozen vegetables and cream of anything-you-like soup. Season to taste. You can make all manner of different 'hamburger helper' dinners this way.My kids used to call it 'scrambled hamburger.

' You can add corn and beans and chili soup for chili, you can add cooked macaroni and cream of cheddar soup for quick mac and cheese (add some peas or broccoli for a good bit of veggies, too). Noodles, cream of mushroom soup, and a little sour cream is a good fake stroganoff. Bell peppers with cream of mushroom soup and curry powder (and garlic and ginger and tumeric and cayenne....) make a reasonable curry.

The commercial hamburger helper has ingredients I can't even pronounce and a lot of salt. No thank you. Use the Cambell's Healthy Request soups and add your own spices and there are a hundred things you can do with a pound of hamburger.

4 While hamburger helper has it's place, there are all sort's of more interesting options available. How about just plain burgers. Form that hamburger into patties.

I like to add a bit of finely chopped onion to mine and season with a bit of salt and pepper. Add just a dab of oil to the pan to prevent sticking (unless, of course, you want to go to the trouble of frying bacon, then just keep the drippings). Heat that puppy up and slap on the patties.

While they are cooking slice up some onion, tomato, pickles, cheese, or anything else you want on your burger (time to flip the patties). Ok, now put whatever sauce you want on your bun (I'm a mayo guy myself) and put that sliced cheese on top of the patties to melt while they finish cooking. Transfer the patties to the bottom bun and let rest while you pour yourself a glass of milk and break out some chips.

A heck of a lot better than the local burger joint and ready faster than the lady at the counter could have said "have a nice day...". How about tacos? Just stick the meat in a skillet to brown.

While that is happening put your taco shells in the oven to crisp up a bit. While that is happening cut up a bit of lettuce, onion, cheese, and tomato to go on the tacos. When the meat is browned drain and add a package of taco seasoning (I like the old El Paso myself).

Stir, cover, and let sit while you get your shells and other filling goodies ready for the table. Once again, much better than the local "taco hut" and ready quicker than the dude can say "have a nice day..."Chili - just follow the instructions on the Wicks Fowler package.Or... the heck with a pot. Let's make a meatloaf....
