Salvation is a personal thing. The spiritual race is also a personal thing. It is good to listen to church leaders or pastors, but we should also remember that they are human just like us and they also make mistakes.
If a church leader tells you something that you are not sure about or something you feel uncomfortable with, make sure you make your own research, so that you can have rest of mind. There is nothing more interesting than having your own personal relationship with God. Read and meditate on God’s word, pray to him and listen to his voice.
This is a quote on how to test the spirit in a church leader or pastor: ---Quote--- Here are some of the things that I would look for when checking out the church/pastor and leadership. 1) Doctrine: How does their doctrine align with scripture? Be as the Bereans (Acts 17:10-11) and search the scriptures to see if what they say is true.
All Christians should be doing this in any case. I would recommend that you investigate key doctrines by listening to a couple of sermons, and interviewing the pastor. Also check out their doctrinal statement.2) How do their actions align with scripture - i.e.Do they reflect the fruit of the spirit.
3) Do they believe that the pastor is accountable to their congregation and to God or do they believe that the pastor has apostolic authority and must be obeyed (get away from any church which teaches the latter ---End quote----
