Seniors, do you believe old age should excuse rudeness?

Yes Lily, it makes you shudder to think how such a sick mind works. We just arrived back here in Hungary and things here are better these days for animals but still I have seen and heard of some shocking things here. Some people do not respect animals at all.

So many strays in the countryside and kittens having kittens of their own, it is very hard to not get upset when I hear how stupid and cruel people are. Once while living in the outskirts of Budapest at my MIL home we witnessed an act of cruelty that I just had to do something about. As we drove past a run down hoe of a Gypsy family my husband said some boys were drowning a kitten in the back yard bath tub.

I told him to go around the block again so I could see what he was talking about. As we got up to the old house it was true there were 6 or 7 boys drowning a kitten in a old rusty tub with 5 or 6 grown men standing around 20 ' away talking, drinking and laughing. I jumped out of the car and started screaming at everyone in my very broken Hungarian that the police were coming, they were idiots etc. the boys were so surprised that anyone would talk to them like that that they let go of the wet kitten and it ran for it's life.

We drove off but couldn't find the poor thing anywhere. I asked my husband to call the police but he aid there was no way they would care on a Sunday to go out and fight with some Gypsies over a cat, so sad. My MIl loved cats, she always had 2 or 3 around her small farm.

She also had a real witch of a neighbor women who was known to bad talk all dogs and cats and many people believed she was the secret poisoner of many animals. My MIL had 3 or 4 cats poisoned over the years, it was very sad. I again tried to do something, when we passed the women's home and she was outside, I did not say hi like most people would but called her a "Cat Killer" in English, if I only knew the words in Hungarian I would of given them to her as well, the old hag!

Someone dumped a stray kitten into my MIL yard but she was getting way too old to look after any more animals, lived alone and we were about to head off to the US and leave her alone. Didn't know what to do with the new kitten so found an add in the paper for a lady to take in cats for a fee and then find homes for them. 'We went to her apt.

To check her out, she really did seem legit so we payed her like $50. And left the kitten with her, hope we did the right thing but we didn't know what else to do with it. Found out after our son was nearly married to his Hungarian wife that her family was also bad with animals, should of told us how she would of been as a wife as wel.

She said that her mother and she would drown kittens because they didn't want to spend the money of fixing their cats, it was cheaper to just drown them or cut off their heads with an ax! WTF! So very glad she never gave me any grandchildren!

There are a few animal shelters here but I am afraid the are not well funded and the shelters are lacking in many things. I also took in my MIL's 2 adult cats and had them fixed before we left the country at our expensce. I do admire people who volunteer with aniamls, maybe someday I will do the same.

I know this sounds relaxed coming from me, but there are just some plain mean people. Some of the dogs we get in at the rescue just makes me want to do some not so nice things to certain people. Pictures I receive on the computer and stories make me sick to my stomach.

I don't understand how cruel people can be. As much as I've seen at times I still ask, My GOD, how can this happen. Are we getting to the point of no return?

I hope in all Earnest that my last breath is taken helping Gods creatures.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
