Should citizens of Wisconsin and the USA be able to CHOOSE to join or union...or should they be forced to join?

After reading some of the uninformed answers here my head is spinning. The truth is the Walker IS giving Wisconsinites the ability to choose. As it stands-you either join the union or you don't get to teach in public schools.

This is tyranny. The teachers have no right to choose nor do the taxpayers have a say in how their hard earned money is spent. Right now there are shop teachers that are receiving compensation packages that equal over $100k and they don't even have to contribute to their own pension!

There public bus drivers earning over $150k! Take a look at how the unions are spending their money: http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php... Keep in mind folks that we are talking about PUBLIC workers unions not all unions. In this case collective bargaining is really on par with the mafia protection rackets ie.

"either pay us what we ask or we will shut down the state.

It may seem more fair, but if some workers unionize, but others working alongside them don't, there is no leverage in bargaining. The freedom of choice is that if you don't want to work in a union, work someplace else. Not every single person in Wisconsin, or anyplace else, is required to be in a union.

EDIT: It is apparent that people here don't understand that public sector employees who are not protected by a union, are very often fired from their jobs not because they are incompetent, but because some politician wants to reward a supporter with a job.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
