We have a Governmental Department (1 Federal and 50 States) called the Department of Labor. Their entire Budget is devoted to make sure that Workers like you and your 21 Comrades are treated fairly. If you feel you are NOT, then it is your Right to file a complaint with them that they will gladly look into and see if your Employer is complying with all applicable Labor Laws.
There is also a group of Federal and State Employees called the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, whose sole purpose is to ensure that you are working in a Safe and Healthy Environment. Both of these people are Paid by your Tax Dollars. Why would you want to give up another $300 in Union Dues to have them supposedly look into the same things?
Unions were a Great Thing long ago....they did just what these 2 Multi-Billion $$ Government Agencies do. It is redundant. It is not needed.
It is corrupt. It is an anachronism that has not figured out it has outlived its usefulness, so is trying to find NEW uses for itself. Like extortion and intimidation and bribing its way back into having a real use.
Just my thought. From experience....I'm in management. We have Teamsters.
I can tell you on a personal level, that our drivers that work in our Residential Concrete Production Company that are non-union, are happier than our Union Drivers in the Commercial Division. They appreciate the fact that if Individually Driver A performs better than Driver B, he can get a raise, and he gets first call out, etc. The youngest Union Driver, hates being in the Union, because, even though he out performs our most Senior Drivers, has the best knowledge of concrete and truck operation and maintenance, he is Last Called Out, he is first to go home each day, and he makes exactly the same as the Laziest, most useless Driver, and it knocked the Personal Initiative right out of him. That is unionization for ya.
That would partly depend on what union you have behind you. Also on what your workplace was like and how interested your 21 fellow workers are in joining. Good luck to you.
Buckeye.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
