No one will be banned from any classroom in California on the grounds of homosexuality. It is in our state constitution that the education system must teach that homosexuality is just as valid an option as heterosexuality. I don't how it this rule got there, and it would make interesting reading, I am sure.
I do know that San Francisco has a large and politically active gay population--and is geographically close to the state capitol in Sacramento. That said, I believe in the don't ask, don't tell philosophy, about homosexuality. I do not personally think preschoolers should be made aware of anyone's sexuality, homo, hetero or auto!
Whatever happened to just teaching preschoolers their letters, colors, directions and stuff? I'm sick of having my attention drawn to eveyone's sexuality all the time.
Child molesters of any sexual orientation should be banned from teaching in preschool (or any school). Whether someone is gay, straight, or bi has nothing to do with sexual attraction to children. Sexual orientation alone should not be a reason to ban anyone from teaching.
Research has shown that most child molesters do not have a developed sexual orientation. According to Dr. Gregory Herek at UC Davis the research shows that "Many child molesters cannot be meaningfully described as homosexuals, heterosexuals, or bisexuals (in the usual sense of those terms) because they are not really capable of a relationship with an adult man or woman. Instead of gender, their sexual attractions are based primarily on age.
These individuals – who are often characterized as fixated – are attracted to children, not to men or women.
Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is rightly illegal in many nations and some US states. Hopefully such discrimination will be completely ended in the near future. Of course, if there really was any scientific evidence that gays or lesbians in any way harmed students that would be a different matter.
But, there is no such evidence. There is only prejudice and quotes from ancient and outdated books. Personally, I am sure I would never have noticed anything about my teachers' sexual orientation until at least college, whether for better or worse.
I don't think that homosexual teachers should be banned from teaching preschool. You mention that it's a time for children to learn right from wrong. That might be the case, but how will a four year old know that his or her teacher is homosexual?
The school won't reveal this fact and most likely neither would the teacher. One cannot assume that someone is homosexual by apperance or their mannerisms. As long as the teacher can perform his or her job in an ethical manner then there is no reason to ban a teacher regardless or race, sexual preference, religion or anything else.As for your last statement about how homosexuality is a choice, I am begging to differ.
I know there have been scientific studies to show that the brain of a homosexual is different than a non-homosexual. But going beyond science to some common sense. Does a person really choose who they will be attracted to?
Everyone talks about a certain "chemistry" involved in attraction. I don't walk up to a woman and say to myself, "I choose to be attracted to her". Either I am or I am not.
A man who likes women won't suddenly say, "I will decide to be attracted to men". I really don't believe it works that way.
No one can influence someone's sexual preference as far as boys verses girls go. The only way I can see someone influencing someone's sexual preference is from abuse. Abuse can cause problems with peoples' sexual life later down the road.
Homosexuality is something that is completely different. I've actually heard people make comments about a girl who used to babysit children in my area. Once it got out that she was a homosexual, people fired her.
They were scared she would molest the young girls. I was appalled as these are two totally separate things. This is like saying that I would molest young boys, because I like to date men.
See? Now isn't that the same comparison? Neither are true.
Perhaps that is the problem that people have with homosexual teachers, they really don't know the facts. Some people probably think their kids are at risk of pedophiles, while others think that gayness rubs off. I can tell you that gayness doesn't rub off from personal experience.
If it did, I'd be the gayest of them all. I like for my son to be exposed to people who are different from him. This way he grows up loving everyone.
I think if any teachers sexual orientation is being somehow taught in a pre-school class something is wrong. We send our kids to school to learn reading, writing and arithmetic while obtaining social interaction. A teacher's personal life has no place whatsoever in the class room whether he or she be homosexual, heterosexual or any other personal preference from religious to vegetarian. As a parent I could careless what my kid's teachers do in their downtime I'm only worried about what they are doing when my kids in their care.
It's not as if homosexuality is some disease these kids are going to catch. I say hire on qualifications, if parents have a problem with the sexual orientation of those teachers let them go elsewhere as I'm sure every teacher in existence has one trait some parents don't like.
I would be interested in seeing where this is being debated. This sounds pretty absurd to me 0_o And I am not a parent, but do they really teach gender identity in pre-school? I just remember eating glue and coloring poorly.
And children this age probably have no idea what the word gay means. As you said, it is blatant discrimination. It is unfair to assume that a person will teach "gay" because they are gay, just as it is unfair to assume a person will teach kids to worship Allah if they happen to be Muslim.
Sure, there could be outliers that may participate in this type of behavior, but it is because they are unprofessional, and this does not reflect on their sexual orientation. I feel the question is somewhat irrelevant because I can find no evidence of preschoolers displaying sexual preference. And god-forbid a preschooler has gay parents; would such a ban extend to the children of gay parents?
The kid may try to gay up his friends, no? Just kidding. Obviously, this would not happen in advanced democratic republics, lest the government and all related institutions would be sued.
I think it would have to do with their level of flaunting their sexuality. The teacher in the above pic is fine, if he shows up in boas and high heels with make-up then yes he should be banned.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
