I believe that caring for its citizens is the goal of a progressive social democracy. Not coddling but providing access to decent health care at a reasonable price whether private or public is untenable in my book. The difficulties will continue as long as the private industry has a strong political voice in Washington, D.C. and the voters believe the distortions about big gov't.
Not being up to the task. Each child born in this country should be guaranteed adequate health care at a reasonable price. Ideally of course.
Remember this. The medical establishment depends on the average person not exercising and not eating sensibly all of which contributes to an unhealthy populace and high insurance premiums. Preventative medicine is free if we choose a healthy lifestyle (as I learned personally).
