Should we use the word "hub" in our hubs? Outsiders might be confused so "article" might be better?

The only hub I knew before I discovered hubpages was the resurrection hub in Battlestar Galactica :D I still didn't know what hub means until I checked a dictionary a minute ago.

Anyway I sensed it was a use specific to this site and stuck to article in hubpages and bookmarking sites. I agree that it would be confusing for those coming through search engines.

But perhaps one day this site will become something really big and the word hub will be a brand word, something like wiki. Then we will want to use the word "hub". That day is yet to come yet though.

I agree with sunforged and others. I feel much more comfortable using the word 'article'. To me a 'hub' is the central point of something such as a wheel. As a matter of fact when there were ads on our Profile page I was attracting 'ads' for Car wheel Hubs and such!

Imho I have the two words as interchangeable.

I avoid the word hub in that context as much as possible - I agree, an outsider is likely to be confused - they will know what a "hub" is, but they will likely be thinking of the traditional meanings of the word. Using "hub" to describe your article is an example of confusing jargon and slang and is not a good writing habit.

Personally, I only use the word "hub" (in that context) when writing the occasional article intended to be read primarily by HubPages users.

I guess it depends on your target audience. For instance, if I want to target only the users from Hubpages I think that it is better to use the word "hub" on the grounds that people understand more than an article this way. A "hub" is an article with everything that comes with it.

On the other hand, if I want to make my content "googler-friendly" the word "article" is better. This way the searcher will understand better, and the "piece of writing" is of more general scope.

Agreed. If you publish your hub with the search engines in mind you should use "article" instead of "hub".

You have a good point there. I've wondered the same. Article does sound better to a new comer.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
