I think it is acceptable given they can get by the strength requirement. The Seals should not have to adjust their standards for qualification or certification to incorporate women or anyone else into the job. Their mission is one that is critical in terms of execution.
Tasks may require above average strength and endurance. Conditions can be brutal...nothing to shift the reality of the world that a Seal must function in therefore no exceptions should be made to the strict criteria in order that we make gender inclusion just for symbolism sake. WB.
I think Wayne makes a very valid point, in that there should be no adjustments of the standards for qualification because of the nature of the job. It is critical for the success of the units and their missions. So if a women can pass the rigorous tests using the same standards, than I don't see why she should not be allowed to participate.
That being said I can see there being an issue with a female in a male unit. Most of our men have been raised to "never hit girls" and to have a women next to you in a dangerous and violent mission could jeopardize the safety for the simple fact that it may be a man's natural instinct to protect the female or cover for her. Instead of focusing on the objective, it may be a distraction because the natural instinct is to protect.
Which is why I suggest maybe utilizing an all female unit. For those who don't think women should be allowed in ground combat, my question would be why? Do I not have the right to fight for my country, for the freedom that our country was founded on.
Can I not stand along side my father, my husband, my brother, or my son and be willing to die for what I believe in?
Whether they are male or female shouldn't matter as long as the same physical and psychological requirements hold for both. Beyond that it's simply semantics.
Sure why not. Have you seen some women in SUV's? Surely that aggression can be used more effectively..
I personally don't think a woman should be in a ground combat unit. If they want to be pilots, fighter or helo, go for it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
