I am strongly against it, but I recognize that it is not my decision. The closest religion that matches my spiritual practice is Buddhism although I am not entirely in agreement with any one system of belief. My personal feelings about Cordoba house are that, regardless of the motives, the effect will be to "rub it in" for those who were affected by the attacks.
If Islam were really about peace I would expect Muslims to be leading the calls for consideration of the large number of Americans who feel that Cordoba house is an insult to the memories of those lost in 9-11. Since this is not seen, I feel highly suspicious of the motives. Combine this with the observations that Muslims in the West tend to agitate for their host societies to conform to Islamic social norms (although it is precisely that system these immigrants are fleeing in the first place), and it is extremely difficult to see Islam as anything but a movement of foreign invaders practicing aggression against Western values.
I will change my view on this matter as soon as I find evidence that Imams in the mosques of Europe and the Americas start calling for Muslims to respect the cultures of their host countries rather than protesting and rioting.
I think it is sad that we can't differentiate between people of Islamic faith and feel the need to demonize the entire group of people. I am a Christian so I do not agree with the Islamic faith but I am so glad that I have the opportunity to practice my faith in this country and I wouldn't want to take that away from anyone. I doubt that they were trying to rub it in, they probably just had the opportunity in that particular location.
If we really think they are trying to stir up trouble wouldn't we prefer that they be somewhere so visable and not on a million acre ranch in Montana or wherever? That is where the real hate groups/terrorists go. I do not know anything about this particular center in terms of support for Islamic extremist behavior and such so it could be more trouble than I forsee it being right now, it seems harmless.
It's not as if it's right on top of the site or anything.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
