Since this country is so politically and ideologically separated, would it not be better for states to form their own?

Similar questions: country politically ideologically separated states form.

We tried that during the civil war. It didn't work very well then.

The people who are divided are in every state.

Yes, something like that would be better. The two predominant political factions want totally different countries. So why not allow separate states to do things differently.

Some states could manage people's lives from the womb to the grave and other states could let freedom rule. There would be a range of different places and people could pick which state suits them best. Rather than forcing people to fight each other or make everyone unhappy by forcing some impossible compromise, people might just have to move to the state that works best for them.

For those that think about abortion above any other political issue, there would be a state for you. The 'tax the rich' crowd could have their own state where they tax the rich 120%. There would be gun toting states, pot smoking states, all sorts of stuff could be tested.

There are vastly different people between places like Alabama and San Francisco. Neither has any business telling the other how they should live. I bet that after 50 or so years that most states would gravitate towards what works and aside from a few major issues, would look quite similar.

We are going our separate ways anyway, might as well make it peaceful. As long as someone is trying to force a lifestyle on someone else, we will have conflict.

There is an inherent contradiction in "to form their own union and go their separate ways peacefully", but the answer is of course NO. Even with their ideological differences, the states still share compelling common interests. Besides, such a scheme would immediately reduce a large proportion of the red states to 3rd world nations!

Consider California's foreign aid budget for Mississippi! .

We'd have fifty warring states instead of one warring nation.

If that is to be the manner in which we solve our differences then why not just split the country in half and let the Conservatives have one half and the Liberals have the other.....

Isn't it ironic that Gettysburg is also in Pennsylvania. Rhine44 27 days ago .

Absolutely not. We are the United States of America. That was tried in 1861 and failed; let's not do that again. Even though we are different geographically, we always reached a compromise for the good of the country until the Tea Party hijacked the Republican party.

They are willing to sink this country rather than compromise. Their massive cuts without raising taxes on the rich would ruin this country. I say, "Down with the Tea party" and maybe it will take someone like Michael Bloomberg of New York to bring us together.

He's a Republican in Independent clothing, a business man, and one smart politician who is good on his feet and loves this country.

The strength of the United States is exactly in that "united" part. "Balkanization" refers to the little countries that eschew any get-along cooperation with those around them. This attitude makes them easy to pick off one by one (much as the Soviet Union did.) We could be comfortable in our own little seclusive, exclusive zones, agreed with by most, unperturbed by the fools, until we're conquered.

According to C. Wright Mills, leaders of the economy, military, and government form the _____ _____.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
