Softened water not good for your steam iron! A water softener adds salt to your well water. Someone in your home must add salt to it periodically (I think you get the salt at a hardware store) or it will not soften the water.

Hard water has minerals dissolved in it from ground rocks or soil, and somehow the salt reduces the effects of those minerals. If you have salt in the water you put in the iron, eventually either the salt will corrode your iron, or, clog it. You could sprinkle water on what you're ironing (we used to put the water in a Coke bottle with a sprinkler top on it) and get pretty much the same effect as the steam iron.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
