Still think the police are using force simply to break up violent, fighting occupiers? Explain this, please?

Explain this, please. Here’s a Cop, Just Casually Pepper Spraying Peaceful ProtestersPolice used batons to try to push the students apart. Those they could separate, they arrested, kneeling on their bodies and pushing their heads into the ground.

Those they could not separate, they pepper-? Sprayed directly in the face, holding these students as they did so. When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-?

Similar questions: police force simply break violent fighting occupiers Explain.

The sh%t would hit the fan if that happened here. We had the police move the occupy movement but without much fuss. Pepper spray is for seriouis disturbances and violence usually against police.

I was a young policeman at nearly every anti Vietnam War demo here in Melbourne Australia and never saw anything like this. Jexebellion 25 days ago.

It's getting ready to hit the fan, here, as well. TurboB 25 days ago .

I guess the police are claiming they were surrounded by the protesters (source: Washington Post), but no one is sure to which force the policeman belongs. I can't imagine the police felt that threatened by seated college students. UC Davis is going to have a lot of angry parents to deal with as well as angry students, and from the looks of it, the college deserves it.

I think the fault here lies with the police, not the university. But thanks for your reply! The video clearly shows the police were NOT surrpunded, and nor where they in any danger from a row of seated college students.

This is uncalled for, and unwarranted, and the video clearly shows it as such. Even some of the police walked off, as they KNEW it was wrong. TurboB 25 days ago .

Yes, I agree, but the university called the police in, and according to what I read, campus police were among the officers breaking up the protest. I'm sure the police will receive most of the criticism, but the parents are going to question the university and the way it handled the situation. The trustees and the university president are in for some tough questions and deservedly so.

I posted the video. Had to wait for a reply! TurboB 25 days ago .

It almost looked like the cop enjoyed that,SICK.

They do enjoy it. Sad. TurboB 25 days ago .

I find it funny, and sad, that the topic elf titles this one war. The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

Apparently peaceably assemble has a different meaning to the police. TurboB 25 days ago .

I'm afraid this is going to get a lot worse.

Oh my God! What is happening to this country? They treat them like criminals.

This is trult disgusting.

I find it sad that people still think that all the occupiers are losers, and dirty bums. The same people who cheered and supported the violent armed rebellions in other countries earlier this year seem to have a real problem when it happens here - and we do not have tanks and soldiers fighting in the streets. The fact of the matter is, however, that everytime something like this happens, it strengthens the resolve of the people who are out there on the front line.

These are not lazy, dirty, drunken bums. These are Americans who are simply fed up with the rich getting richers and the ignorance of the common man who thinks that is ok - and they are not going to go away. The supporters of the one percent seem to think that they, too, will one day be allowed to join the uber rich in this country.

The cop knew he was on camera and that he was being watched and identified. He did not give a damn. That tells you something. In my book he was following orders and assured no repercussions would result from his actions.

Sometimes, things are so unbelieveable that you get shocked to inner stillness. This is one of them. And the cop KNEW he was being videoed!

Here is what his boss had to say, about this:The man who pepper-sprayed the protesters in the video above is Lt. John Pike, of the UC Davis Police Department. If you'd like to let him know what you think of his actions, you can email him at *******@ucdavis.Edu; for what it's worth, his boss, UCD Police Chief Annette Spicuzza, told the Davis Enterprise that she's "very proud" of her officers.

"I don't believe any of our officers were hurt," she says, "and I hope none of the students were injured. " TurboB 25 days ago .

I wrote this email to officer Davis:I am deeply saddened and outraged by the sheer brutality of your actions towards peaceful protestors. What kind of soulless monster ARE you? What justification could you have for being so barbaric and cruel?

You are a disgrace to this country and I am so ashamed that people of your ilk have actually been hired to protect the innocent. You are a failure at protecting the innocent. You are now he whom others must protect the innocent FROM.

How dare you overstep your boundaries so inappropriately? I am actually nauseated by you. Ashamed and disgusted,(my name here)I also plan on writing an email to his brain dead boss.It would serve him right if he were inundated with emails.Heartbreaking.

Oh, I meant Officer Pike....sorry, type O .

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/11... com/national/archive/2011/11/pepper-spray-brutality-at-uc-davis/248764.

To be fair: from the link you provided"If you watch the whole clip, you see other police officers beginning to act "human" in various ways -- taking off their riot helmets, being restrained rather than unbridled in use of force, a few of them even looking abashed or frightened as they walk off. Somehow, this reminds me of Kent State. Sad, that.

TurboB 25 days ago .

Such brutishness as exemplified by the police only further emboldens others to join the cause. Moreover, it convinces those being brutalized that the police are not there to protect and serve, but rather by their actions have become the enemy themselves.

Criminals deserve what they get. What kind of a frickin' idiot do you have to be to say crap like that? In Seattle several members of the clergy were pepper sprayed, along with this 84 year old woman - who is having complications in her lungs from inhaling the spray: jpg.

This is an outrage. It is going to fuel the movement - as it is drawing attention to the fact that the corporations don't just control our government, they control our police forces who are becoming increasingly militarized. Welcome to the United States of Corporate Personhood.

Your papers, please. Sit down and shut up - or we'll make you.

A great commentary on the situation by a professor at UC Davis. I hope that the chancellor is fired. This situation is totally unacceptable in America. We should be disgraced.

This is not going to end well. I think all of us who remember the 60's know that. And speaking of papers, please - heres's a sad thing.

It's a law of nature. When the status quo is challanged, Fashism increases....

If they gave lawful orders and were resisted, that would be protocal. But otherwise, I'd say they were acting in frustration, and that would be unacceptable. I don't think any rational person would or should condone that.

I may not like what some of them do, but that does'nt mean the rest have to pay the same price.

When you commit the crime of being uppity, you pay the price. %( .

The supporters of the one percent seem to think that they, too, will one day be allowed to join the uber rich in this country. Hallowed are the Ori .

That is abuse. There are many police who are violent in their own families...some were in military before. The police should be arrested themselves.

They may have been given instructions by people in power to do this.

Maybe they are trying to get them to fight back so they can arrest them.

Gov Walker had the police on out on the teachers etc who protested. We may have been one of the first states to protest the lack of empathy/rudeness Gov gave. They are signing petitions to recall him now.

He has allowed many laws that are twisted...not good. He is very sly .

This is supposed to be a country of law and order -- When you decide that your desire to ignore the rule of law over-rides that of a law enforcement officer - you may be subject to forced measures. In other words --- Sometimes - you get what you ask for. These people - from reports I heard - were ordered to unblock the public walk-way, or they would be removed by force.

They choose to ignore the police orders -- and got what they asked for. )Thay all also previously had asked to be arrested). Sorry to rain on your parade - but that's my feelings.

The fact that you either did not watch the video, or refuse to admit what is on it, is not raining on my parade. If you wish to pretend it didn't happen, that is your choice. You are the only one that has to live with yourself.

But thank you for your comment. TurboB 25 days ago .

I saw the video - and gave you my response --- Thank you.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
