Though haven't been able to access the article in question, I understand your frustration. When I see amateur writing that disturbs me, grammar wise, I assume it is from someone for whom English is not the first language, or perhaps the person was not able to receive a decent education. When it comes from someone professing to be a "writer" or, worse yet, a professional "journalist" influencing so many from his position on TV, I get crazy!
Maybe the teaching of English has been replaced with "How to Make $$ Getting the Hottest Gossip or Sexiest Photos".
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
