I *love* reading and can barely stand to put a book down. It doesn't take "patience" or "disciple" for me, because I simply love it. On the other hand, socializing takes EXTREME patience and discipline from me because I find it grueling and tedious.
People are different. It's not a character flaw to dislike the act of reading. If you're determined to make yourself do it, though, maybe you could try listening to an audiobook version of the book.
You can even go out and take a walk while listening to a book. As for wanting to be an author, though, I'm afraid you'd find it to be torture. Having cool ideas has very little to do with being a writer.
It is an arduous, solitary task requiring enormous discipline. If you don't love reading, you would definitely not love writing. Again, that's okay!
You will find the thing you love to do! It sounds like you're a "people person" and would be great working with others.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
