Agreed. Piercing children's ears (unless their old enough to ask for it) is dumb. Circumcision of the male is done for hygienic reasons, female is just mutilation.
Lots of it also has to do with the culture, and who is one to say their culture is better than others. I have a Rottweiler who came to me as a puppy with a docked tail. Docking the tail in Europe is illegal and will cause a forfeit in any Canine Champion Breed.
While I myself would never have chosen to have her tail docked, the fact that she does not have a tail (she has a little nubbin that does wag and I love it!) is very very convenient. Those rope-like tails whipping back and forth knock stuff all over the place, not to mention if they whack you it doesn't feel good.
Cropping has a purpose, whether or not it's something a person judges as a good enough reason is neither here nor there. As far as the question at hand... I don't relate cropping/docking to choices we make for ourselves as adults. But I can relate it to someone having their child's ears pierced, many of them do it when they are still babies.
I do not think those people are abusive or bad parents. In general I do not compare the two. I also wouldn't crate my child when I wasn't home.
I wouldn't have my child pee outdoors. I wouldn't feed my child from a bowl on the floor. I don't compare what is done to dogs as what I would do with a child.
I don't understand why anyone would.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
