Throughout History - Who Would Have Made A Good President?

Someone who never ran for President, or who ran and got defeated......among the great names in American history, there were many who either never ran for President, or who were defeated when they ran. You CANNOT name anyone who was elected. Who do you think would have done a more than admirable job as President, maybe even have been a great President?

My votes go to: Ben Franklin, William Jennings Bryan, and Adlai Stevenson. If you use an Answer slot - no Wikipedia answers unless you want a low score. Asked by OldppieHatesNewAV 41 months ago Similar questions: story Made President Society > story.

Ann Richards I always thought she had the right amount of humor, judgment, political acumen, and compassion for the citizenry. She could give a speech with the best of them; leadership seemed to ooze from her. I know she was active in politics her whole adult life, culminating in a one term stint as governor of Texas.

After the speech (her keynote address at the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta) where, about George Bush, Sr. She famously whipped out: "Poor George. He can't help it.

He was born with a silver foot in his mouth" Barbara Bush always referred to her as "that woman. " In 1969 as a housewife with four children, Ann worked for many candidates including Sarah Weddington, a lawyer who had successfully argued the Roe v. Wade case before the US Supreme Court. In 1974 Ann became Ms.

Weddington's administrative assistant in the House. She didn't launch her own political career until she was in her 40s. Her special interests were civil rights, economic justice, and education.

Ann oversaw a revival of Texas's economic fortunes as governor. She insisted on government efficiency by authorizing comprehensive audits of every state agency. In the schools, she introduced site-based management to put more power in the hands of the parents and teachers at the campus level. Ann is also remembered for the unprecedented appointments of women and minorities to important posts during her administration.

Maybe she lacked foreign policy experience, but with sound advice (which she would have sought), Ann Richards would've made a strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leader; welcomed and recognized in the international theater.
