Your Interest in the languages is to be applauded, however...Three things here : 1) Catalan is one of the Co-Official languages of Spain, but linguists argue with whether it the same language spoken in Valencia or not. No, it is not spoken or understood throughout the rest of Spain, and even a small percentage of people living in the region of Catalonia may struggle to understand Catalan if they were taught Castillian as a first language at school, and spoke castillian at home 2) Ignore everything that the "Chrimbo Murcia " Nutjob / Troll has to say 3) Personally, I would put more effort into learning Castillian to as high a standard as possible http://www.tumbit.com/blogs/541-spanish-….

I would stick to Spanish until you are fluent and then study French. Spanish and French are world languages and allow you to speak to hundreds of millions of people. Catalan is a good language to learn afterwards.(Remember more people speak Zulu than Catalan. It is similarly a bit restricted in geographical scope.

) Catalan is spoken mainly around Catalonia in Spain but also extends to Alicante, the Balearics and up to Provence. There are still some historic enclaves in the Mediterranean that speak Catalan , but they are not material. The vast majority of Catalan speakers also speak Spanish or French.

I would learn the basics but remember that Catalan messes up your Spanish (and French). I have asked a few Catalan teachers and they have all told me that I should perfect my Spanish as it is so near to being good, rather than waste time on Catalan, and end up being imperfect in both.

I live in Barcelona. (in the Province of Barcelona).

The Catalan is spoken in Catalonia and Valencia are some regions of Spain. I recommend that you go to any coastal city of Valencia, are the best place in Spain. I recommend the city of Gandia.

Here I leave a link with pictures of this city: gandia.nl/Playa-de-Gandia.htm… y live in spain and I speak catalan. If you want I can help you.

Oh wow, you are going to have so much fun! You should learn as many languages as you can, in my opinion. Btw, if you're going to be in spain for awhile...consider Mallorca...I rented a villa there through balearic-properties.com/ and it was the most amazing place I've ever lived.

You are so blessed to have that opportunity of travel, so don't pass it up!

Catalan is the language of Catalunya, the province where Barcelona is situated. So, if you plan to live in that area it would be a useful language to learn. But in general you only need to learn Spanish as this is the official language of Spain and spoken throughout the country.

You can get by in castellano (Spanish). Heck! You can get by in ENGLISH, for the most part!

But they love it if you know their language! If you learn any catalán, the people in the regions where it and its variants are spoken (all the way up the coast from Valencia to France, and the Baleares) will totally LOVE you for trying...even if you never get fluent! A few words will make you their hero!(few people put any effort into it.) Knowing catalán will help you with French...and in Southern France, they speak a variation (a dialect similar) Should you stick to just Spanish?

That's up to you...your interests, and ambitions...

Catalan is the proper Spanish language but you`ll get by very easily just speaking common Spanish,,where I lived the local dialect was almost incomprehensible but it was understood all over Spain.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
