Tobacco cigarettes, cigars, pipes: Is smoking illegal in public places in your area?

I live in between two cities, one larger (around 20,000 people) and one smaller (around 2,000 people). The larger city has very strict smoking ordinances, while the smaller city does not. In the larger city, smoking is banned in all bars and restaurants unless there is a special room with separte heating and cooling systems and ventilation systems in place and working properly.

Smoking is also banned within 20 feet of a store front. This was not a big deal for me (as I am a smoker) except for when a man was ticketed for sitting in his car in front of a convenience store with his windows up smoking a cigarette. He was ticketed because, even though he was in his vehicle with the windows rolled up (since it was hot and he had the AC going), his physical body was indeed within 20 feet of the storefront.

This, in my opinion, was quite ridiculous since the man obviously wasn't hurting anyone. The larger city is still not satisified and wants to pass a complete smoking ban in all public places. In other words, smoking would be banned everywhere.

If you are sitting in your vehicle in a Wal-Mart parking lot, you would not be able to smoke. No smoking would be allowed in any parks or on the street. All public places, indoor and outdoor, would have no smoking policies. In my opinion, this is getting very ridiculous.

If a person is so sensitive to breathing foreign particles, I must say second hand smoke from someone standing next to you in an outdoor area is the least of your worries. A person like that has much more horrible, intrusive things to worry about, such as pollution, carbon monoxide from vehicles, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde which is sprayed on new clothes and can be detected heavily throughout clothing stores, dust particles, dry wall and fresh paint in newly constructed buildings, and the list goes on and on.It's starting to appear these new laws are more for the purpose of alienating the smokers than for the health of the nonsmokers.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
