Yes you can run the repair from that disc. Just boot from the disc and after it has loaded click on repair. Main focus is to not lose any data.
So why have you not been making back ups or system images? Anyhow if the repair fails so long as the disc is the same version as that which is installed after booting from the disc select to do an upgrade. It will of course not upgrade but it will repair the entire system keeping all your programs and personal files intact.
When using this method sometimes programs lose a few registry entries if that happens, just reinstall the programs.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
