Unable to log into iTunes store to buy songs to download to my iTunes?

Unable to log into iTunes store to buy songs to download to my iTunes. I updated my OS in order to download songs from the iTunes store. I registered successfully and method of payment was accepted.

When I go to the store, they ask for log in--either my Apple ID and password or my AOL e mail address and password. It has never worked. I contacted Apple.

They could not help me over the phone because it would compromise my personal info in regard to iTunes account. I e mailed Apple with the problem. They responded by e mail and gave me instructions which were exactly what I have been doing for over a week.

I have set up an account five times already. Has anyone else experienced this problem and can you suggest another website for songs which supports iMacs. Thank you so much.
