I only get substitutes here and there...in a month I'll have maybe 5 different things (tofutti, smart ground, etc). I don't make many desserts but when I do it's something vegan already--not normally something in need of egg replacer unless it's my mom's sugar cookies. I think that people who spend so much money on these things are missing out on the delicious part of being vegan...the food you get to cook!
When I get faux stuff, it's a treat for me. Not a way of life. And besides, some of them are too 'meaty' anyway.
I do think that in the beginning the premade veggie burgers, chickn patties etc. makes it a lot easier while you are learning how to tackle tofu in its many forms. Vegan replacement items are definitely best used sparingly and mixed with much cheaper foods, like kale, rice, lentils, ramen noodles without the msg envelope, baked potato, etc. And don't forget about cooking your own seitan. And tofu is cheap too.
There are very few vegans who rely on these products as a large part of their diet. Most people will use a lot of vegetables, grains, beans etc, then every now and then get some vegan ice-cream as a treat. Most vegan food is actually very affordable, and the ones that aren't are the ones that we're not supposed to eat too much of anyway.
X.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
